. . .

STILL WAITING FOR SPRING

Well, I must admit that today's temperature is a little more Spring-like, but there is a lot room for improvement.  There are still some spots of snow left from the weekend mini-blizzard, so we need more days like today -- maybe even a little warmer.  I finally made a Spring themed tag, so now I can take down my snowman tag and "Dream" of warmer, sunny days.  My mojo has been lacking this winter, so maybe warmer temps will make it come back.

The steps in making my tag were as follows:  First, I colored the whole tag with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink using a small piece of soft sponge.  Next, I stamped the bird/branch and bottom flowers with Memento Brown Ink.
The fun part was making the flowers.  I used the Tim Holtz "Tattered Florals " die to cut petals from white cotton crinoline and sprayed them with Tattered Angels "Rose Tea" Glimmer Mist.  After drying them, I stamped them with a script rubber stamp and assembled them using glue dots.  A pearl in the center of each flower was the finishing touch.  I made 3 medium flowers and 3 small flowers which I attached to the lower left hand corner of the tag along with 3 green leaves.  I also used a die cut branch and a "Dream" ticket in the lower corner.  A single small flower was attached to the upper right hand corner along with 2 leaves and a small branch.  I also sprayed the ribbon hanger with the Glimmer Mist.
It was the first time I had made flowers like these and I was quite pleased with the results, so I'll probably use this technique again.  Now to put all of the supplies back in their place and maybe organize them a little better.  I hope this tag makes your "dream" of Spring come true.

Where is Spring?

It's March 24, and it's snowing -- in fact it has been snowing ever since I got up this morning (6:30).  We drove to City Limits for breakfast in a blizzard -- good thing the snow isn't really sticking to the roads as it's right around freezing.  Thought maybe pictures of my orchids would at least make this blog look a little "springy".  I hope I can keep these two alive, as I don't usually do well with orchids.

Just looking at them makes me feel like Spring must be just around the corner. LOL   Time to get serious about making a couple of Spring tags, so I'm ending for today.  Enjoy the day!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Good Morning!  It's St. Patrick's Day and only 27 degrees.  Where is Spring?  Robins are all over the place and all fluffed up to keep warm.  I know a few of them stay here through the winter but a lot of them have just arrived.  Poor little guys.  There are some new little calves at the farm down the road  from us and I'm sure they're shivering.  It's time for sun and warm temps. but the week ahead looks below normal too.
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I'm posting a Magnolia card that I made last year.  The verse is:  When Irish eyes are smiling, 'tis like a morn in spring. With a lilt of Irish laughter you can hear the angels sing.

I hope everyone enjoys the day!

Easter Card

I keep thinking that Spring is just around the corner and then it snows again -- like yesterday.  It looked like we were having a blizzard at times, as the flakes were huge and the wind was really whipping them around.  It's sunny today but only 25 degrees at mid-morning.  Thought I'd make an  Easter card and enter it in the CMC challenge since it has a couple of butterflies on it which go along with the current theme.

I inked the background with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and then stamped the greenery at the bottom.   I stamped and cut out the rabbit and butterflies.  The rabbit is "popped up"  using SU pop dots.  The butterflies were colored with Dusty Concord and Spun Sugar Distress Markers and heat embossed using Ranger's Holographic Embossing Powder.  Tiny pearls were used on their midsection.  The stamps are from the Tim Holtz collection "Spring Sprung" by Stampers Anonymous.

It almost felt like Spring today -- 41 degrees and sunny!  What a nice change from cloudy and 30 degrees.  Still looks awfully white outside, so it can't melt too fast for me.  We're supposed to get rain tomorrow, so a lot of snow should disappear then.  Not much new to write about, but thought I would post a card that I entered in the last CMC Challenge.  It's a cute digi from Penny Blossom.

This cute little gal says "Hang in There".  Guess that's what I'm doing while I not so patiently wait for spring.  Enjoy!

Here it's March 5, and we're supposed to be heading towards Spring but we're having another "BIG" snow.  We probably have another 4" of fresh powder.   It's state basketball tournament time in Des Moines, so we shouldn't be too surprised I guess, 'cuz it always seems to snow then.  Here's a picture of our backyard that I took this morning.  It's veery pretty if you like snow!

Here, a pretty Magnolia card that makes me think about Spring -- a much nicer season to think about than Winter.

That's all for today, as I need to spread frosting on some double chocolate cupcakes I took out of the oven a little while ago.  The house smells sooo good.

March 1, 2013

I enjoy stamping and scrapbooking.  I usually make cards and tags, using Copic markers to color images.  I plan on displaying cards in my blog whenever I can.
